Travel guide for one day Istanbul to Izmit (Nicea)?

Robert asked:

I will be in Turkey in October and need a travel guide for one day out of Istanbul–to visit Izmit (Nicea). I’m told it is about 120 miles out of Istanbul. Help! How do I find a reasonably priced guide for the day–they will have to have their own car, of course. ANY suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Hello, I may not help you with the guide and tour. But I have correct one thing. Izmit is not Nicea. I know names are really looking like each other. Ancient name of Izmit is Nicomedia. Nicea corresponds to today’s Iznik, which is a city belongs to Bursa province. 120 miles should be from Istanbul to Iznik.

    Izmit = Nicomedia
    Iznik = Nicea

    First off, Nicea is now Iznik. As for guides, you could check out sites like turkeytravelplanner.com. However, if you just want to bum around to there by yourselves. do this:
    From Yenikapi in Istanbul, take a ferry to Yalova.
    From Yalova, take a bus to Bursa (there will be one waiting in the parking lot).
    Enjoy Bursa, as it’s a fantastic historical city in and of itself.
    From there, take a bus or dolmus to Iznik.

    Iyi yolculuklar (have a nice trip!)

    Nicea is Iznik.
    Depending on your preference of route, it’s about 4 hours drive away from Istanbul.
    For a private driver&guide with his own car, pls. send an e.mail and consult
