I am travelling from Florence to Rome by train on the 7th of September. Do I need to pre-book my trip or can I simply get my tickets just before departure?

Pre book because the lines can get long at the stations and the trains do sell out. We booked two months in advance for trips from Venice to Florence and Florence to Rome and barely got seats. The best way is through. I have used this service several times while traveling in Europe and find that they get you what you need in a very timely manner. And if they can’t book exactly what you want, they call you within a few days to let you know your options.

I recommend you book. You can do this direct from Trenitalia. Their website is also in English. 1st calss is 37.50 euros and 2nd class is 27 euros. The link to the site is:
